Tremont School of Judo, Ju Jutsu & Karate would like to express our holiday wishes to all members and non-members in this Holiday Season.

As the year ends, we hope that everyone had a great year and that this coming year is even better.

Our gratitude goes to everyone that has become part of the Tremont family these past years, and we deeply thank all our instructors for their time and dedication.

Congratulations to:

Dai Shihan Palzer for a great Master of Ceremony presentation at this month's promotional ceremony, and Shihan Medina for all his hard work in making this event a success.

Master Lopez Sr and Sensei Lopez Jr and their Tae Kwon Do team for an energetic and well performed demonstration.

We would also like to mention our appreciation to Soke Antonio Pereira Jr and his wife for attending this and all the previous promotional ceremonies.

We would also like to thank all the Sensei's that participated in or attended the ceremony, including Sensei Wilfredo Agostos, Shihan Mark Griffith, and Sensei Charles Porter.

We would also like to especially thank everyone that came in from out-of-state, including Sensei Sean McFaland, Sensei Bob Brogdon, Sensei Cindy McNally and her son Neil McNally, and Nathalie Vaiser.

Congratulations to Bob Brogdon for his promotion to Mokuroku, and all the students who were promoted!

Summer 2007 update:

Greetings Students and Parents,

We hope this letter finds you all well and enjoying the summer. We are pleased to report that our new air conditioning system is working well. It has taken most of the humidity out of the air and has greatly increased the comfort level at the school during these hot summer days. The school continues to grow and while some of our younger students have left to travel and enjoy the summer with their parents, we have managed to enroll new students to take their place.

Many of our students are now involved taking classes in both Judo and Karate, or Jujutsu and Judo; some are even taking classes in all three arts. We couldn’t be happier about this and encourage all our students to continue their martial arts studies in this manner.

Mi Yama Ryu Jujutsu continues to attract students, and while some students may find it is not for them, there always seems to be someone new willing to give it a try. We have watched this process for over 40 years and we suppose it will continue this way for the rest of my life. We can only encourage those presently learning Mi Yama Ryu not to become discouraged. All of us, everyone from Shihan down to Okuiri have all made the same mistakes and all have been discouraged at some time or another in their training. It will get better…if you just continue. In time, your body will learn and you will overcome whatever problems you are having with whatever techniques are concerning you. That is the good news. The not so bad news is you will develop new concerns and questions. They too will be addressed, but this pattern will continue. If you wish, it will become a life long pursuit. There will always be questions... and answers… if you choose to look.

In 1970, The Shinan and several of his instructors attended a judo and weapons seminar in New Milford, Conn. The seminar lasted a week. The place where this seminar occurred was called Camp Bushido and it was Tremont’s introduction to Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. I was fortunate to be one of those attending. The school has included weapons training in its curriculum since that time and we will reintroduce instruction in both tanjo and jodo to our students beginning in September.

As always, the doors to the hombu dojo are always open. We look forward to our fall ceremonies which will be held in October. We wish to thank Master Lopez and his son Sabumnim Miguel Lopez Jr. for their fine work with our Tae Kwon Do division. We continue to work from the teachings of Shinan Antonio Pereira, the founder of Mi Yama Ryu JuJutsu. We will continue to maintain the hombu dojo in his spirit. I look forward to seeing all of you throughout the summer and wish all our students continued success in reaching their goals.
